1965 Shelby Cobra Replica
This Cobra replica features an Everett-Morrison chassis and a fiberglass DAX 427 body that were purchased in 1985, and it was acquired by the current owner in 2014 as a non-running project that was completed by Moon-Shine Automotive Performance of Jacksonville, Florida, in 2016. The car is finished in gray with red stripes over a black interior, and power comes from a 428ci Ford V8 paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. Additional features include Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes, Jaguar XKE-sourced suspension components, an American Powertrain hydraulic clutch, and more as outlined below. A carburetor tune was performed in 2020. This Cobra replica is now offered on dealer consignment with a chassis Statement of Origin, build and service records, a soft top, spare parts, and a clean Florida title in the owner’s name listing the car as a 1965 Ford.
The DAX 427 fiberglass body was sourced from DJ Sports Cars, Ltd. of Essex, England, in June 1985 and was painted in its current gray with red stripes in 2016. Features include ceramic-coated side-exit exhausts, chrome tubular bumpers, a molded hood scoop, Talbot-style mirrors, Cobra-branded plexiglass wind wings, and Cobra badges.
The Halibrand-style 15″ Compomotive multi-piece wheels feature faux knock-off hubs and are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The Everett-Morrison chassis features a fully-independent suspension that utilizes components sourced from a Jaguar XKE, as well as rear coilovers and GAZ front shocks, the latter of which were installed in 2020. Braking is handled by a Wilwood master cylinder and disc brakes at all four wheels.
The cockpit is trimmed in black upholstery and features a wood-rimmed steering wheel, five-point harnesses, a red shift knob, and Stewart Warner gauges including an 8k-rpm tachometer, a 160-mph speedometer, and gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. Just under 300 miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, all of which were reportedly added since the car’s completion in 2016.
The 428ci V8 was reportedly sourced from a 1960s Ford and was fitted with 427ci cylinder heads, chrome “Powered by Ford” valve covers, and a Cobra air cleaner by Moon-Shine Automotive Performance in 2016.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes an American Powertrain hydraulic clutch, a Centerforce 11″ clutch disc, and a QuickTime scatter shield. Undercoating was applied to the underside during the 2016 build.
